About

The Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies is the oldest faculty of the university, established in 1999 as the foundation of its academic journey. It played a pioneering role in shaping the university’s identity and commitment to higher education. The faculty proudly graduated its first cohort of students in 2003, marking a significant milestone in its development.

To further strengthen its role and respond to societal needs, the faculty has continued to provide high-quality education in Islamic Sharia and related disciplines. It was established to address the growing demand for qualified scholars and professionals with strong expertise in Islamic law, capable of serving in public institutions, civil organizations, education, and the judicial sector.

With the continuous graduation of students over the years, the faculty has contributed significantly to the development of society by promoting knowledge grounded in both authentic Islamic teachings and academic excellence.

The Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies works in close collaboration with other faculties, particularly the Faculty of Science and Arts, to prepare graduates who promote justice, ethical leadership, social responsibility, and good governance, while upholding and applying the principles of Islamic Sharia in contemporary society.

The Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies is committed to providing high-quality education in Islamic Sharia and related disciplines through excellence in teaching, research, and community service. Message from the Dean

On behalf of the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies, I warmly welcome you to our faculty, the oldest and pioneering faculty of our university. Since our establishment in 1999 and the graduation of our first cohort in 2003, we have remained committed to providing high-quality education in Islamic Sharia and related disciplines.

Our faculty is dedicated to nurturing knowledgeable, ethical, and competent graduates who can serve society in various fields, including Islamic banking, legal and judicial services, education, business management, and community leadership. We strive to combine classical Islamic knowledge with modern academic methodologies, ensuring our students are well-prepared to address contemporary challenges while upholding the principles of Islamic Sharia.

We take pride in our distinguished academic staff, modern teaching approaches, and the success of our graduates locally and internationally. It is our vision to be a leading faculty in Eastern Africa, recognized for excellence in teaching, research, and service to society.

The Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies offers undergraduate programs designed to equip students with deep knowledge of Islamic law, ethical leadership, and practical skills applicable in legal, financial, educational, and community settings:

  • Bachelor of Sharia and Islamic Law (BSIL) – Focuses on Islamic jurisprudence, legal rulings, Sharia courts, and the application of Islamic law in modern society.
  • Bachelor of Islamic Banking and Finance (BIBF) – Combines principles of Islamic law with banking, financial management, investment analysis, and Sharia-compliant finance.
  • Bachelor of Islamic Education (BIE) – Prepares students to teach Islamic studies in schools and institutions, including curriculum development, pedagogy, and educational leadership.
  • Bachelor of Comparative Religion and Da’wah (BCRD) – Develops skills in interfaith dialogue, propagation of Islamic teachings, and understanding of comparative religious studies.
  • Bachelor of Islamic Governance and Public Policy (BIGPP) – Covers leadership, ethical governance, policy development, and implementation of Sharia-compliant public administration.
