ABOUT EAST AFRICA UNIVERSITY
Established in 1999 in Bosaso, the commercial hub of Puntland, East Africa University
(EAU) is anonprofit institution of higher education in Somalia. EAU stands as the pioneering
university in Puntland. With eight campuses nationwide, EAU offers programs in various
departments such as: medicine, engineering, veterinary, business administration, social
sciences, computer sciences, and Islamic studies. The university also operates a virtual
varsity center, catering to numerous students and employing a substantial teaching and nonteaching workforce.
East Africa University Burtinle Campus was founded in 2020 and has achieved remarkable
accomplishments in knowledge, research, and innovation since its inception. It also provides
a contemporary education designed to align with the rapid economic, technological, and
societal transformations of the 21st century.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The recruitment announcement is to dean position of the Faculty of Medicine and Health
Sciences at East Africa University Burtinle Campus. The role is under the direct supervision
of the Campus Head. The role and responsibilities will include the following:
Act as an East Africa University Burtinle Management team member, representing the
faculty on relevant committees and workgroups.
Join the university’s teaching staff, as he or she will be assigned some course units to
teach depending on their academic credentials.
Assist in executing and attaining the university’s strategic plan.
Possess in-depth knowledge of the university’s overarching policies and current standing,
particularly academic and administrative matters.
EAST AFRICA UNIVERSITY
Maintain historical, current, and projected statistical records related to their faculty.
Provide lecture notes and academic material using the prescribed administrative form.
Prepare and disseminate lecture schedules at the commencement of each academic
semester.
Monitor student performance and attendance by identifying those needing support, and
acknowledging exceptional students.
Review faculty program syllabus and submit them for review to the university’s general
academic oversight board(s).
Develop course outlines for department programs and distribute them to students,
overseen by the head’s office.
Present regular updates and reports to the executive committee (led by the Campus
Director).
Conduct semester evaluations of faculty lecturers and assist them in fulfilling their roles.
Maintain the records of the daily activities such as examinations and retain a copy for
quick reference.
Prepare faculty progress reports twice each semester (and reporting to the Campus
Director).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Medicine or health sciences, or closely related subjects
relevant to the position. Holding a master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience:
A track record of two years in successful academic management, including resource
management, team leadership, change management, teaching methods and goal achievement.
Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrate exceptional communication and presentation skills, effectively representing the
faculty both internally and externally, and embodying the goals and values of the university
faculty.
LANGUAGES:
Fluent in English
Proficiency in Somali is advantageous
